This is my page for the 1996 Taito game, Magical Date/まじかるで〜と

This page is primarily informational but doubles as a promotion for our fan-translation of the 1997 PS1 port. Translation out now!

Magical Date was first released in 1996 on Taito FX-1 arcades, then again in an updated version during the winter of 1997 on PS1 (The PS1 version then being ported to Playstation Store for PSP, PS3 and PS Vita, only missing the Densha De Go! demo), all remaining Japan-exclusive.

The game is playable alone or with two players, with the goal of winning the affection of one of the three girls of your choice through winning arcade-styled minigames and answering questions as you go through the game board over the course of an in-game year leading up to the Christmas party! With the motion capturing handled by Studio DYNAMO you can watch cutscenes and take photos of the girls after clearing seasonal events, or within the separate modes donning the outfits of your choice.
There's a variety of endings you could end up with, even if your favourability level appears to be at its MAX there's still room for more.

One of the girls, Ayumi, appears again in a later Taito arcade title. Kirameki Star Road (きらめきスターロード♪), where she is now trying to become an idol. The game is focused on guessing the titles of the given songs from a short snippet of music in the the game's soundfont. It was later ported to the DS as a more general quiz game.

The music of the game was composed by ZUNTATA; Hiroyuki Misawa, Kazuko Umino, Norihiro Furukawa, Shuichiro Nakazawa and Hiroshige Tonomura were those specifically credited for the soundtrack CD. Released only a month after the PS1 release, December 21st 1997, this CD contains the original music of the game, plenty bonus songs, extended songs and song list. Downloads are available here.

There are two books on Magical Date to my knowledge. In December 1997 the artbook 「まじかるで~と ドキドキ告白大作戦 Complete Works」 was released, including a poster of Rin, what else it contains is unarchived and undocumented.

Then in January 1998 the guidebook 「まじかるでーとドキドキ告白大作戦 完全攻略ガイド」 released too, I've purchased and scanned this for download or viewing here. (My scanner is a bit dirty and on some of the first few pages the words ended up being cut off a bit due to how tightly bound the book is. If you would like to know what a particular page or paragraph says, you can ask me personally.)

With the help of the staff mentioned above, I am releasing a full fan-translation of Magical Date. It functions on real hardware and all of the emulators we've tested so far, the patch is only compatible with the original Playstation release and not the later PSN release.
You may download the patch alone here (Direct Download) or the pre-patched game for easier access here (This link may need to be removed over time). Contact me at videogoth@gmail.com if you run into any issues.
Merry Christmas ♡
